Smart Plots by DMZ are an innovative way to leverage test plots so that they can become more powerful marketing tools, better employee engagement locations, and effective corporate communication and training channels. Through the use of Beacon Technologies and mobile applications DMZ can create smart locations at Test Plots and effectively create Smart Plots.
Powered by iBeacons
Smart Plots are data-connected Test Plots that hold a collection of physical beacons, which can range in size from that of a fifty cent piece to that of a computer mouse. Each beacon is coded with a back-end content location, which can be managed completely from a home office. Place a beacon next to an important seed hybrid and you can provide users with all the content relating to that seed variety. This content may be in the form of Videos, PDF Files, Audio files or the like. Additionally, because the back-end content center can be updated on-demand, plot information can evolve over time as new information is learned and new content is generated.
Leveraging Test Plots
Agriculture Research and Show Plots are used all over the country to test new products and show off innovative seed and application technologies. However, when coops aren’t putting on Plot events and researchers aren’t in the field, these plots often sit idle. This is largely because a person with knowledge of the plot needs to be present to give farmers educational tours. With Smart Plots, Plot operators can make their plots available to farmers for a tour 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This is because they can utilize a digital tour guide through Smart Plots to educate farmers who are actually walking through the physical location. With a simple smart device, such as a Smart Phone, a farmer can walk up to a seed hybrid and be educated on all the information about the hybrid as well as the management practices being subjected to the hybrid as he stands in front of it.
Updated & Evolving Content
All of the informational content associated with each beacon is displayed to the farmer or retail employee through an app. The informational content for the beacons can all be managed from a home office or computer because the back-end data management system is web-based. Additionally, the back-end data management system can be continually updated and due to the fact the content is housed on a cloud-based system rather than within the app or on the beacons, users can continuously evolve the content and messaging on-demand. This means hot topics that come up through the growing season can be integrated into the plot system from one computer. All the content will update on the back-end and when a user connects to a beacon the new information associated with that beacon will display. Simply drop a video file into the beacon associated with a particular seed hybrid and every beacon in the country sitting next to that hybrid will be updated within minutes. Drop a new satelite NDVI image onto a plot from the home office and that plot's beacons will instantly have access to the new information.
Focused Corporate Message
Large agribusinesses often have many test plots scattered across many states and even countries. Managing and presenting at all these locations can involve a lot of employees, all with different levels of expertise and sales styles. As discussed earlier, Smart Plots provide a new and innovative communication channel for all these plot locations that can be managed from a single computer at the home office. This one management location can be used to focus the corporate message by positioning certain content to be displayed across the entire network of plots. Plus, with a constantly evolving content base for the plots, employees and presenters for the test plots can continue to evolve their knowledge and stay in line with the overall message and positioning of the company and its products.
Unique Customer Interaction
Smart Plots really provide a unique customer interaction with a company and its plot locations. Due to the digital connectivity within the plot location, farmers who may be busy milking cows during the regularly scheduled plot events would be able to make it down to the plot at their convenience. Plus, users of Smart Plots will have the most cutting edge show plots in the world as Beacon technologies and the Internet of Things Concept are brand new technologies that have not yet been implemented into the Ag industry until now.
Employee Training & Engagment
Smart Plots provide a very unique and engaging employee experience. Additionally they provide corporate users a very powerful training tool. Smart Plots do this by providing a continuous flow of information that is current, relevant, and educational to end users. This is done through the cloud-based update center and the leveraging of high-value employees. The best employees at a company are often the ones with the most expertise, the best sales strategy, and the most successful message. Due to geographic limitations it is not always possible to leverage these employees’ skills across the entire company and help train those employees that might have less experience. Smart Plots do this by brining content from these employees to the rest of the company in a very innovative, efficient, and informative way. Imagine a new sales employee or agronomist that has just graduated college and has entered the business. With the Smart Plot app this employee can be updated when new content has been added to the plot. When they go to the plot videos will pop up of highly experienced employees describing the product, showing its key features, and offering advice on how to best position the product when trying to sell a customer.
Live Video Chat
Smart Plots and the associated apps also have the ability to become a new communication channel for agribusinesses. Using a “help button” setup users can connect to a live video chat with a support person, such as an agronomist, seed specialist, or the like.
Flexible Data Management
Smart Plots derive much of their power as Agribusiness tools from their flexible data management capabilities. Each Beacon is coded to a specific location on a cloud server. This location houses the content for the beacon and this content can be changed at anytime from anywhere over the internet.
Corporate Communication Network
Smart Plots creates a Corporate Communication Network and an additional data channel for an Agribusiness. Large Agribusinesses often spend millions of dollars on their plot programs. With an investment of this size, it is safe to say that an Agribusiness's test plot is a valuable location and one in which the business will want to garner the most value. The Smart Plots system captures this value by connecting the actual plot location to the web as well as the entire plot network. This gives the plot the ability to serve as a sales tool, marketing tool, training tool, and much more. Consider the national Agribusiness that operates many plots across the country. If that Agribusiness has a key sales manager that knows how to use the Test Plot effectively, why not have that manager create some informational content on their strategies when talking about a specific product. If the corporate team likes the content they could put it up on the entire Plot network, allowing employees in different states to see how the top sales managers in the company approach sales and talk about products, while they themselves are standing in front of the product.
The Smart Plot system is currently being developed by DMZ and its technology partners. At present time DMZ is looking for a corporate partner in the distribution of this technology or the roll out of this technology across an existing Test Plot network. Please contact us if you have an interest in such a partnership.
